What Does Bathroom Remodeling Cost?

Bathroom Remodeling Cost Estimates in Long Island, NY.
One of the obvious items a homeowner wants to know before starting their bathroom remodeling project is a rough idea on cost.  And this is a really tough question to answer without physically inspecting the project.
Remodeling your bathroom can be complex can involve many different kinds of materials and many skill sets to install these materials properly.  You will need the services of a plumber, likely an electrician and a remodeling contractor that specializes in bathrooms and understands the waterproofing requirements.  Labor is often the largest expense for any remodel, providing you aren’t choosing some of the more luxurious building materials.
Although generally small in size bathrooms are still one of the most expensive remodeling projects (per sq.ft.) that a homeowner will do.  As mentioned above, you’ll need the services of different trades and the need to waterproof the room also raises the expense of the remodel.  The plus side is that a good quality bathroom remodeling job can fetch 80-90% of it’s value if you ever plan to resell the home.
Lets think for a second about the average bathroom. It’s usually a high traffic area in any Long Island home.  Your bathroom gets alot of use by many different people in your household. In order for a bathroom to be truly functional, it has to have proper plumbing in place, electrical and ventilation to deal with the moisture laden air.   If you want a beautiful bathroom that is aesthetically pleasing you’re going to need to hire an experienced carpenter / contractor who can coordinate the entire project for you.

What Does The Average Bathroom Remodel Cost?

The average cost nationwide in 2011 was around $16,000 according to the National Kitchen and Bath Association. Our experience at South Shore Remodeling is that the average small 5’x8′ bathroom on Long Island will cost approximately $13,000 to $15,000 to complete.  This is for a modern, very nice aesthetically pleasing bathroom.  This cost average is not the rule though and every bathroom will be slightly different.
We’ve completed bathroom remodels that cost less than the average and we’ve also worked on bathrooms that cost quite a bit more, where the homeowner had more lavish tastes.

Something To Consider With Your Bathroom Remodel

When planning your Long Island bathroom remodeling project first consider your budget. This is by far the most important aspect of any remodeling project. Figure out what you can truly afford and want to spend. From there the budget can help you make difficult decisions much easier. Its nice to consider that $300 rain head for your shower but if its not in the budget you’re just wasting your time and driving yourself crazy.
Don’t be discouraged if you don’t have $13,000 for your bathroom remodel, it doesn’t mean you can’t have a beautiful bathroom for a little bit less you’ll just need to make some compromises along the way.  Working with a good, reliable contractor will make this process easier and much more clear.
